Former frontman of folky Seabear, Sindri Mar Sigfusson, has found a new solo project for his more experimental musings. Following amidst a stream of impressive Icelandic oddities (Björk, Sigur Rós) comes Sin Fang Bous’ multi-layered daydream of an album, Clangour.
Written, recorded and performed entirely on his own, Clangour is focused on Sigfusson’s impressive one-man orchestration. Rather than using the album to focus on lyrics, his pasted voice acts as another layer of sound amidst bells, whistles and synths.
The beautifully breathy vocals of “Poi Rot” and “We Belong” draw comparison to a hazier Iron & Wine, while quickly diverging with “Poi Rot” harking a Shins-like whistle and “We Belong” transforming into a low-key disco. “Melt Down The Knives” brings forth surprising post-punk energy while “Advent in Ives Garden” pays tribute to the Postal Service with electronic whirs and blips.
Clangour is an album that must be heard in its entirety. Each track eases into the next, taking the listener on a journey that captivates the imagination.
