I’d wager to say that one could build a small wall around San Francisco with the countless numbers of cassettes, CDs, DAT tapes, and hard-drives containing the unheard bedroom recordings of our fine city’s vibrantly creative people. It seems that everyone has a musical project they’ve been working on for years that just “isn’t quite finished” or that they’d “rather not show around.” On the flipside, some have recordings that are only passed out to friends or remain buried under the digital clusterfuck that is Myspace Music. I’m here to unearth one such artist.
Adam Finken is Onondaga, a warm-hearted singer/songwriter whose tender and personal acoustic numbers are as naive as they are well-versed in the ways of life and love. Each song is a short foray into the kind of music one would assume is inspired by the likes of Devendra Banhart, early-Mountain Goats, and (insert any old folk singer mentioned for posterity), but still retain an original sound all their own. With no forthcoming shows in his calendar, Onondaga may remain in the bedroom for the time being, but maybe that’s for the best. San Francisco could always use one more person doing it just for the music, building that wall higher and higher til we’re forced to pay attention. -Patric Fallon
