Cowboy Indian Bear

Indie pop trio Cowboy Indian Bear is well on its way to joining the likes of The Appleseed Cast as one of Lawrence, KS’s best musical exports. Featuring former members of The Jen Say Kwahs (Marty Hillard)  and Kennedy Luck Club (C.J. Calhoun and Beau Bruns), CIB’s developed sound is refreshing Kansas City music scenesters left and right.

A relatively new band, CIB recently released a three song, self-titled EP/preview of their debut full-length (due out this Fall) that has garnered rave reviews, a Pitch Music Awards nomination for “best indie pop band”, and general excitement for what’s to come. While they list Broken Social Scene, Death Cab for Cutie and Radiohead as musical influences, they also reveal their inclusive appreciation for other musicians in their sound. Traces of Jenny Lewis, Hot Chip and Refused can all be found in CIB’s music .

They don’t keep the variety limited to inspirations. All three members are talented multi-instrumentalists known for playing vocal and instrumental musical chairs during their live shows. Their melodic EP, chock-full of electronic beats and harmonies, results in infectiously contagious songs that will have you listening on repeat. With a handful of upcoming Midwest shows lined up, fingers are crossed that some West Coast dates are also in the cards.  -JM
